Is it normal to have redness and swelling after your hair transplant? And what is our post-op aftercare protocol?
After an FUE or FUT hair transplant surgery, experiencing redness, swelling, and even some bruising around the scalp is perfectly normal. This happens because the procedure involves making thousands of tiny incisions or one bigger incision to harvest & then implant your hair grafts. Naturally, your body reacts to this as a minor injury.
There’s a cascade of inflammatory responses: increased blood flow, more fluid accumulating in the area, leading to swelling, redness, and sometimes even bruising. This typically lasts for around 5 to 8 days. The swelling might be noticeable around the forehead and eyes, but it gradually subsides over time due to gravity and natural drainage.
Following the initial healing phase, some residual redness can linger for several months. This is because healing and hair growth are ongoing processes. The extent of this redness depends on your skin tone and hair color. Fairer skinned patients tend to experience slightly longer periods of redness just due to the higher contrast.
