Hair loss is a complex condition, and many patients require additional prescription-strength interventions to slow or halt thinning. At the Canadian Hair Transplant Centre, we prescribe oral dutasteride as part of a comprehensive hair restoration regimen.
What Is Oral Dutasteride?
Oral dutasteride is a prescription medication that inhibits both type I and type II 5-alpha-reductase enzymes, blocking dihydrotestosterone (DHT) production more completely than other medications, including finasteride. This dual inhibition reduces serum DHT levels by approximately 90% or more, resulting in a more comprehensive impact. For patients who have not responded adequately to finasteride after 12 months of consistent use, dutasteride is the next evidence-based option to slow or halt the progression of androgenetic hair loss.
