Where Microsurgery Meets Facial Architecture

The eyebrow is one of the most structurally important features of the face, shaping your expression, framing the eyes, and defining your facial symmetry. At the Canadian Hair Transplant Centre, our founder, Dr. Anil Sharma, personally performs every eyebrow hair transplant, applying the same microsurgical standards used in scalp restoration to one of the most delicate and visible areas of the face.

What Are Eyebrow Transplants?

An eyebrow transplant is a microsurgical procedure in which individual follicular units are harvested from the occipital scalp and implanted into the brow region, restoring density, shape, and definition. Unlike cosmetic alternatives such as microblading or tattooing, which deposit pigment beneath the skin, transplanted follicles produce real, living hair that grows naturally, moves with facial expression, and can be trimmed and shaped as part of a regular grooming routine.

Here, our transplant method uses the following principles:

  • 4-point microscopic graft inspection
  • Real-time graft viability technology
  • High-density implantation mastery with up to 60 grafts/cm²
  • Proprietary accelerated recovery protocol for up to 50% faster healing

What to Expect From Your Eyebrow Transplant in Edmonton

Brow Design and Pre-Operative Planning

Before extraction begins, Dr. Sharma will plan your brow design using fixed facial landmarks, including the nasal base, inner canthus, brow arch peak, and lateral tail position, and will use digital photography to document symmetry. We’ll administer local anaesthesia containing lidocaine and epinephrine to both the donor and recipient areas to prevent discomfort. The planned shape will be finalised during your consultation, and Dr. Sharma will review your eyebrow design a final time before proceeding with surgery.

Donor Area Assessment and Graft Extraction

Dr. Sharma will manually extract all grafts from the occipital scalp using 0.6-0.7 mm punches under stereoscopic magnification. He’ll distribute extraction patterns across a broad donor area to avoid localised thinning, creating a cohesive, natural-looking result. While every patient’s procedure is different, we typically use 200-400 grafts per eyebrow.

Graft Preparation and Storage

Following extraction, every graft will be examined under a stereomicroscope before being approved for placement. Dr. Sharma applies the following standards to every eyebrow hair transplant in Edmonton:

  • Only single-hair follicular units will be used to replicate the fineness and sparseness of natural brow hair
  • Each graft will be assessed for intact bulge and root structure to confirm regenerative viability
  • Excess tissue will be carefully trimmed to ensure each graft fits the recipient site precisely
  • Approved grafts will be stored in ATP-enhanced HypoThermosol solution at 2-4℃ until placement

Recipient Site Creation and Graft Placement

During implantation, Dr. Sharma will create all recipient sites using sapphire blades or fine-gauge needles matched to each individual graft's dimensions. Incision angles will follow the natural directional pattern of brow hair growth, ensuring hair lies flat against the skin regardless of growth angle. Dr. Sharma will apply the following placement principles across each eyebrow transplant case:

  • Medial grafts will be angled upward, following the natural upward growth direction of the inner brow
  • Central grafts will be directed laterally, transitioning the angle across the arch
  • Lateral tail grafts will be angled downward to replicate the natural tapering pattern of the outer brow
  • Graft spacing will be calibrated to achieve natural density without overcrowding, which can compromise blood supply and graft survival

Patient-Centred Recovery

Recovery after eyebrow transplants in Edmonton typically involves mild swelling, redness, and small scabs at the brow recipient sites during the first 7-10 days. These are a normal part of the healing process and should not be picked or disturbed. We’ll provide you with a hydration spray and specific instructions on cleaning the brow area during the early healing window. Most patients resume everyday activities, including work, social gatherings, and light movement, within three to five days. Strenuous activity and anything that causes significant facial sweating should be avoided for at least ten days to protect graft integrity as the follicle settles in the skin.

Your Personalised Post-Op Process

After your procedure, we will provide you with a customised recovery plan designed around the specific healing requirements of the brow region. Your plan may include guidance on the following:

  • Incision site care and cleaning protocols
  • Sun protection and exposure requirements
  • Facial skin care guidelines
  • Hygiene and grooming recommendations
  • Activity limitations
  • Side effects to monitor
  • Swelling and discomfort management strategies

Over the coming months, you will return to our offices for short follow-up visits with Dr. Sharma. There, he will assess your healing progress, evaluate graft integration, and check for areas of new loss or thinning.

Natural-Looking Results

The final results of your eyebrow hair transplant in Edmonton will begin to emerge within three to four months, with visible density improvement by month eight and final maturation within one year. Some shedding during the first few weeks is normal, as this makes room for permanent hair growth. Because transplanted hairs retain the growth rate of their scalp origin, they grow faster than native brow hair and will require trimming every two to three weeks once fully established.

Eyebrow Transplant Frequently Asked Questions

What causes eyebrow hair loss, and can a transplant address all causes?

Common causes of eyebrow hair loss include over-plucking with permanent follicle damage, scarring from trauma or burns, alopecia areata, trichotillomania, thyroid disorders, and congenital absence. Transplants are appropriate for stable, well-defined loss. Patients with active autoimmune conditions should seek medical clearance before proceeding.

How is an eyebrow transplant different from microblading or tattooing?

Microblading and tattooing deposit pigment beneath the skin to simulate the appearance of brow hairs. They fade over time, require periodic maintenance, and produce a flat, static result. An eyebrow transplant uses living follicles that grow real hair, move naturally with facial expression, and do not require ongoing pigment touch-ups.

Will transplanted eyebrow hair look natural?

Yes. Dr. Sharma’s advanced, precise methods produce eyebrow transplant results that are difficult to distinguish from native brow hair. His approach emphasizes correct graft angulation, appropriate follicular unit sizing, and natural directional shifts to create cohesion across the brow zone.

Can an eyebrow transplant be performed on scarred tissue?

Transplanting into scar tissue is possible in many cases, depending on the depth, vascularity, and age of the scar. Scarred tissue can reduce graft survival compared with healthy skin, and Dr. Sharma will assess the specific characteristics of any scarring during your consultation before recommending whether transplantation is clinically appropriate.

Schedule Your Surgical Consultation

Hair transplant surgery requires careful evaluation and planning. Schedule a consultation to determine if you are a candidate for FUE or FUT procedures. The assessment includes donor evaluation, recipient area analysis, and discussion of realistic outcomes based on your individual characteristics. For medical therapy options, consult with your primary physician or dermatologist.
