How long does it take for new hair grafts to be secure?
Following a hair transplant, the newly implanted hair grafts take some time to establish themselves in their new home in the recipient area. During this initial phase, the body starts forming fibrin, a protein that acts like a biological glue, securing the grafts in place. While 7 days mark a significant milestone, total and complete security for the grafts takes a bit longer. By around 14 days, the scalp around each graft finishes healing, providing a more robust foundation. However, activities that could cause significant impact, like strenuous exercise, should still be avoided for a few more weeks.
While the grafts are secure after 2 weeks, it’s important to remember that hair growth is a gradual process. You might experience some initial shedding of the transplanted hair, but this is normal. The hair follicle itself will remain in place. It typically takes 12 months or more to see the full results of the hair transplant, with new hair permanently integrated into the scalp.
